NIRI supports a stronger institutional disclosure system. This will involve comprehensive changes to more effectively and efficiently communicate equity-ownership information, ultimately resulting in increased public confidence in the integrity of the U.S. securities markets.

In its various advocacy activities, NIRI will occasionally partner with other organizations on common initatives such as the work we are doing with the Shareholder Communications Coalition and FD on ownership transparency.

NIRI Testimony to the House Subcommittee on Capital Markets (June 2013)
NIRI has submitted testimony to the House Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises. In this testimony, NIRI calls for greater oversight of proxy advisory firms and a modernization of shareholder communication rules.

SEC Petition for Section 13(f) Rulemaking (Feb. 2013)
NIRI, NYSE Euronext and the Society of Corporate Secretaries submitted to the SEC a request for rulemaking to shorten the deadline for institutional investors to report their share ownership positions.

SEC 13(f) Rulemaking Comment Letter Template (Feb. 2013)
NIRI members are encouraged to work with their companies in tailoring and submitting this comment letter template to the SEC in support of Section 13(f) reform.

Shareholder Communications Coalition
The Shareholder Communications Coalition is an advocacy organization dedicated to improving the ability of individual investors to vote their shares and communicate with the publicly traded companies in which they invest. A central tenet is to enable companies and all of their owners to know who owns the company.
