NIRI's Standards of Practice for Investor Relations. The first Standards revision - Earnings Release Content - under the new standardized development and approval process is now complete, and was approved by the NIRI Board on December 3, 2008. The National Investor Relations Institute’s Working Group on Earnings Release Content and the NIRI Board of Directors recommend that public companies review and consider adopting these voluntary guidelines covering basic content, format and quality of information for quarterly earnings releases. These guidelines are considered "best practice" based on various sources of information, including the SEC's Advisory Committee on Improvements to Financial Reporting (CIFiR), plain English recommendations, SEC rules, articles by practitioners in the field, and feedback from both the media and the investment community. Breaking the Short-Term Cycle:
Discussion and Recommendations on How Corporate Leaders, Asset Managers, Investors, and Analysts Can Refocus on Long-Term Value

Best Practice Guidelines Governing Analyst and Corporate Issuer Relations
On December 1, 2004 the NIRI Board of Directors approved the Best Practice Guidelines Governing Analyst and Corporate Issuer Relations. These Guidelines, developed in conjunction with CFA Institute, address such issues as analyst independence as it applies to analystsÍ relationships with corporate issuers, access to corporate executives, retaliation whether by companies or analysts, pre-publication review of analyst research reports by the corporate issuer, and issuer-paid research. The guidelines are voluntary-but are based on NIRI's Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. These guidelines are ethical principals aimed at assisting companies in their efforts to support the independence and objectivity of analysts and to advance a mutually beneficial relationship that is in keeping with the best interests of investors.
