Frequently Asked Questions

What is the status of the 2020 NIRI Annual Conference?

NIRI has made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel the in-person 2020 NIRI Annual Conference due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In its place, we will hold the inaugural NIRI Virtual Conference on December 8-10.

I registered for the in-person conference in Miami. Do I need to register again? What will happen to my hotel reservation?

All existing registrations for the 2020 in-person Annual Conference (including guest registrations) have been cancelled. You will need to re-register if you wish to attend the Virtual Conference. Visit our Registration page to re-register.

If you were previously registered for the in-person conference, you now have a credit in your NIRI account for the full amount of the registration fees that you paid. This credit balance can be applied to all NIRI products, including event registrations, online education, IRC application fees and membership dues. Click here for instructions on how to view and redeem your available credit. Credits will expire in one year, so be sure to use your credit before October 2, 2021. Credits must be applied at the time of purchase and cannot be applied retroactively.

You can also request a full or partial refund of your credit balance by email to accounting@niri.org at any time before October 2, 2021. Remaining balances after that date will be used to further NIRI’s mission of education, information, and advocacy.

If you have an existing reservation at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach, you will need to contact them directly to cancel that reservation. Please call the hotel at 1-800-548-8886 with any inquiries.

What exactly is a virtual conference? What will the Virtual Conference look like?

The NIRI Virtual Conference has one objective: to help you succeed in IR during these trying times. Virtual Conference registrants will have access to 30+ hours of educational content for three months beginning December 1. General Sessions and other education and networking sessions, including live chats with speakers, facilitated discussions and dedicated time with exhibitors, will be offered in the afternoons (ET) of December 8-10.

You’ll be able to interact with others via one-to-one video chats, online lounges, and other virtual gathering spots. Exhibitors will showcase virtual booths for you to explore between sessions. Many presentations will be pre-recorded and available for you to watch at your convenience, but scheduled speaker chats will offer you the opportunity to ask questions of the presenter(s) and engage with your IR peers.

How do I access the Virtual Conference?

You will receive an email with a link to join the virtual event from your computer or mobile device.

Will I have to download an app or special software?

No special software or app will be required to access the conference. The virtual event platform will run on your web browser. For the best experience, we suggest using a desktop or laptop computer, and please enable popups.

What are the minimum system requirements?

For the best conference experience, Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari browsers are recommended.  A minimum connection speed of 2 MB/s is best for streaming within the platform.

Do I need to have a webcam for the event?

Although you do not need a webcam to participate in the Virtual Conference, we encourage you to turn your webcam on during face-to-face networking with other attendees.

Will the Virtual Conference be recorded for viewing later, or do I have to attend the sessions during the designated time slot?

We will record as much content as possible for on-demand viewing through March 2021, including the General Sessions and education sessions. However, some content, such as Virtual IRC Lounge discussions, Industry Breakouts, and networking events, will not be recorded and will only be available during the live event, so we encourage you to join us live for maximum engagement.

Do I have to attend the entire event? Are there partial registrations?

Virtual events bring the experience of an in-person conference to your personal computer, so just like an in-person conference, you have the freedom to select which sessions to watch and attend. Of course, attending the event in its entirety will help you to get the most out of the experience. We do not offer partial registrations for the event, nor will any individual sessions be made available outside of the Virtual Conference environment.

Can I record or take photos of the presentations or sessions?

By registering for the 2020 NIRI Virtual Conference, you agree to not record, screen capture, or in any way reproduce material presented at the conference. See our Policies page for more details.

What is included in the cost of my registration?

Registration for the 2020 NIRI Virtual Conference includes full access to the conference via a secure online platform, including general sessions, on-demand education, the Virtual IR Showcase, and networking activities. All registrants will have full access to recorded content on-demand until March 1, 2021. Anyone wishing to view the content after the live conference dates can still register to gain access to the recorded sessions through March 1, 2021.

What are the registration deadlines?

There are no registration deadlines for the Virtual Conference.

How do I use my NIRI credit balance to register for the Virtual Conference?

How can I obtain an invoice/receipt for a registration or group of registrations?

A receipt is sent via email at the time of registration. A confirmation email, with more information about your registration, is also sent at that time.

You can re-print the system generated receipt by logging in to your NIRI account, clicking on My Transaction, and then on the event.

Should you need additional assistance, please contact prodev@niri.org for a receipt, invoice, or additional registration questions.

Can I transfer my Conference registration to someone else if I cannot attend?

Yes - substitution requests must be made in writing and will be accepted until December 1. Please note that additional registration fees may apply to a substitute in a different registration category. See our Policies page for more details.

What if I need to cancel my registration?

All registrations are final, and no refunds will be given. All registrants, including those who are unable to attend the program live, will have access to the recorded general sessions and on-demand education sessions until March 1, 2021.

Substitution requests must be made in writing and will be accepted until December 1. Please note that additional registration fees may apply to a substitute in a different registration category. See our Policies page for more details.

Can I bring a guest?

Guest registrations are not available for the 2020 NIRI Virtual Conference.

Can I claim continuing education credits, PDUs, or CPE credits?

By attending the NIRI Virtual Conference, IRC® credential holders can earn up to 10 professional development units (PDUs) for full attendance and cover the required IR competencies. Credentialed volunteers and speakers can also earn PDUs. An additional 1 PDU per session can be claimed for watching on-demand sessions after the live conference programming concludes. (Additional PDUs for on-demand sessions will need to be manually tracked by the IRC holder.)

Click here for details about claiming CPE credit.

Will NIRI provide a certificate of attendance?

A certificate of attendance will be provided after the conference. If you need a detailed record of which sessions you attended, you will be able to download a report showing your conference activity.

Who developed the conference programming?

The Virtual Conference program is developed by the 2020 Annual Conference Committee (ACC) which is comprised of representative members of the NIRI community. The ACC begins their work in the fall and follows a well-defined process of content development that includes:

  • review of community submitted session proposals
  • topic identification and ideation
  • speaker recruitment and preparation
  • session refinement in which ACC members challenge, defend, and validate session ideas
Click here to learn more about the 2020 ACC.

Is there an attendee list?

A list of attendees will be made available to conference registrants within the virtual event platform one week before the conference.

What does "Respect Our Community" mean?

The NIRI Virtual Conference is focused on thought leadership and education. Unsolicited service and product promotion (outside of the Virtual IR Showcase) is not appropriate. Only exhibiting and sponsoring companies may engage attendees directly via the messaging features of the Virtual Conference platform. Please respect our community, and notify NIRI of violations.

The 2021 NIRI Annual Conference is currently scheduled to take place June 6-9, 2021 at the Marriott Marquis in San Francisco, CA.
