Every Earnings Call is a New Beginning – What To Do Pre, During, and Post Earnings

Tuesday, June 6, 2023 | 2:00PM - 3:00PM | Room: Chicago 9  |   Pre-Conference Session

 |  Robert McConnaughey | Tim Yocum | Salli Schwartz | Dylan Yaworski |

Every earnings call is the chance to tell your story and set the narrative about your stock. This is especially important if your primary connection with shareholders and analysts is only once per quarter, during the earnings call.   This session will cover best practices across earnings call prep, script writing, and setting guidance with a particular view toward managing a difficult message to the street.

Every IRO will eventually face the need to communicate a period of uncertainty.  Talking to the Street during these times requires a strong, consistent, and clear message and a good bit of preparation and caution.  This session will cover how to create the message, control the narrative, prepare your management ahead of time, and find the right balance across guidance and transparency.  In addition, the session will cover best practices in more extreme scenarios like a severe miss in guidance or when it is appropriate to pre-announce earnings.  By building a consistent approach and cadence in your earnings delivery, you and your management team will be best positioned to weather the storm and come out stronger in the end.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss the art and science of guidance, including investor preferences, company best practices, and other key considerations, such as pre-announcing and updating throughout the year
  • Align on earnings preparation best practices, including executive- and business-level involvement, script development, and Q&A preparation
  • Maximizing earnings prepared remarks and reinforcing long-term messages for the buy side amidst a busy earnings season
