Managing Up: An IRO’s Guide to Working with Executives and Directors

Tuesday, June 6, 2023 | 3:00PM - 4:00PM | Room: Chicago 9  |   Pre-Conference Session

 |  Deborah K. Pawlowski, IRC | Laura Kiernan, IRC, CPA |

This session will help IROs level-up their communication with management and Boards of Directors by walking through case studies with experienced IROs and Consultants that have had a “seat at the table” with the Board of Directors.

Possibly the most challenging aspect of any IROs role is managing up.  Learn how others have effectively provided candid, direct, and actionable feedback to managements and Boards in a way that will engender trust, enhance your reputation.  By providing guidance to the Board and management on capital allocation, strategy, and capital markets transactions as well as measurement of the success of your IR Plan, you can become a trusted advisor to your management team and Board.
Some of the topics that will be covered in this workshop/session include actual case studies on how to:
  • “Manage Up” — Providing Candid, Objective Counsel as an IRO
  • Understand Fair Valuation: Undertaking Data-driven Market Analysis and Benchmarking
  • Recommend and measure the success of an Investor Relations Strategy
  • Communication with Executives and Directors During Crises and Transformative Events
