Welcome to spring! After a long winter marked by unending snow on the East Coast and too little out West, I am ready for the change. As always, weather, the economy, global events, and the stock market remind us how unpredictable each season can be.
I am excited about this issue of IR Update as it is packed with sound advice and takeaways. From artificial intelligence (AI), our hottest topic, to ethical dilemmas and wisdom for the next generation, this issue has something for everyone.
As we all know, AI can sharpen clarity, consistency, and speed when used with disciplined review and enterprise controls. The article, “AI on the Frontlines: From Drafts to Decisions” (page 16), offers key tactics for using the technology to draft documents while avoiding the “sameness” that can come from a machine. Included are concepts around investor targeting, tracking sentiment, and dealing with volatile situations. A key standout reminder: AI augments judgment; it never replaces it.
While I contributed to the article, “Wisdom for the Next Generation of IR Professionals” (page 10), I had more fun reading the commentary from my fellow NIRI colleagues. There were so many things I could relate to, including the “panic” moments and so many great lessons learned. For example, I once had a vacuum start up along the wall next to where we were hosting an earnings call. Panic!
Chris Symanoskie compiled a really thoughtful piece entitled, “Confronted With an Ethical Dilemma? ‘PACE’ Yourself” (page 28). It reminds me why I am so grateful to have a network like NIRI that can help not only identify the challenges we face in our roles but also help articulate clear methods to solve those challenges. As the title implies, investor relations ethics depend on disciplined judgment, and we need structure and a practical framework for sound decision-making.
Sneak Peek: this issue’s “Spotlight on the CFO” (page 8) features a leader recognized by Forbes and Fortune as “one of the world’s most influential women.” Need I say more?
Finally, please be sure to review the preview article for the NIRI 2026 Annual Conference (page 22). The event has been refreshed, including a Gala and other networking events, and the educational content and speaker line-up is fantastic!
I look forward to seeing you in Chicago!
